August 4, 2010, Dateline Downtown Danville. The Walldogs are Coming and they know that Danville is Doggone Dandy. That’s the theme for this fabulous four day event during which the creativity of visiting artists and local artists combine to create at least 12 large murals on the walls of downtown Danville.
Scott Lindley, Walldogs Project Manager said “Danville is the perfect community for a Walldogs meet. You have so much history to celebrate and so many creative folks in the area. It’s a natural!” Working with Danville Area Convention & Visitors' Bureau Sales Director, Anne Sacheli, as well as reps from the City of Danville, Downtown Danville, Inc. Vermilion Advantage, and other commmunity members, the Walldogs have identified the walls to paint, researched the topics and are making plans for four days of fun in August.
“It’s going to be a street festival atmosphere, “ says Sacheli of the upcoming paintathon. “We’ll have food and entertainment, an event every evening, and a big auction and party on the last night. The money we raise there will help maintain the murals in years to come.”
Sponsors and community members have been stepping up to the challenge. Sponsorship levels are at the halfway point and committees are gearing up with exciting plans for festival activities. To learn more or be a part of it, call the Danville Area Convention & Visitors' Bureau at 217-442-2096 or become a friend of Wallgdogs on Facebook. You can also check out www.thewalldogs.com. The theme is soooo right: Danville IS Doggone Dandy!

NJCAA SELECTS DANVILLE!
By now, everyone in Danville/Vermilion County has probably heard that the NJCAA Division II Men’s National Basketball Championships will remain here, at Danville Area Community College, at least through 2014. A team of four tournament co-chairs; Dick Shockey, Danville Mayor Eisenhauer, Jeanie Cooke (Executive Director of the Danville Area CVB), and Mike Hulvey (Neuhoff Broadcasting) represented the community during the bid process.
After the politicking and the visits with friends old and new at the NJCAA Annual Meeting in Colorado Springs, we can honestly say the #1 reason we were able to “bring home the bacon,” so to speak, was you - the citizen of Danville/Vermilion County.
A pat on the back if you were a host, a volunteer, a sponsor, a donation giver, a well-wisher, or a fan. Your kindnesses, your support, and your dedication were heartfelt by those many participants and attendees. From Maryland, to Florida, to Kansas, to Arizona, we were told again, and again, what a special place this is. We’re not talking about 5 or 10 people here, but nearly everyone we came into contact with. Those that had not been at the tournament, had been told by others.
Congratulations to each of you – a multitude of thanks! This community will march 4th! See you at the NJCAA in 2011.
